I am Mr. Wangotta Michael Masakala; a lecturer of linguistics at Makerere University in the Department of Linguistics, English Language Studies and Communication Skills.I have taught linguistics at the university for over fifteen years. My mother tongue is Lumasaaba, spoken on the slopes of Mt. Elgon in Eastern Uganda. This language has four distinct dialects and these are: the southern dialect spoken in Manafwa district, the central dialect spoken in Mbale district, the northern dialect spoken in Sironko dialect and the manjiya dialect spoken in Bududa district.Lumasaaba is one of a few languages that have many archaic Bantu forms and at one stage it was considered to be the oldest bantu language in the victoria Nyanza by earlier Bantuists. I speak the southern dialect in which I have done some research. For my M.A, I did research on Lumasaaba Verb extensions. Apart from my interest in morphology, I am also very interested in tone, syntax, sign language, translation studies and clinical linguistics.
