Ton van der wouden studied Dutch Language & Literature at Leiden University. He defended his dissertation entitled Negative Contexts in Groningen in 1994. He published on topics such as polarity, multiple negatin, collocation, morphology, corpus linguistics, spoken language and gender linguistics. He was involved in various projects, including the lexical database CELEX, the European machine translation project EUROTRA, the Spoken Dutch Corpus CGN,the VIDI project Dutch as a construction language and the Taalportaal project.
