I am Professor Emeritus of Education at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, where I served as director of the Mi’kmaq-Maliseet Institute. I am co-author, with David A Francis, of Peskotomuhkati Wolastoqewi Latuwewakon: A Passamaquoddy-Maliseet Dictionary (2008), the result of 35 years’ collaboration with speakers in First Nations communities of Maine and New Brunswick. The 18,000-plus-word dictionary is now accessible online as part of the Passamaquoddy-Maliseet Language Portal (www.pmportal.org), where entries are linked with video recordings of native language conversations, and with audio recordings of words and example sentences.
